1. Introduction and General Terms


The YEAA is committed to protecting your and your family's personal information when you are using our services. We want our services to be safe and enjoyable environments for our audience. This Privacy and Cookies Policy relates to our use of any personal information we collect from you via the following online services:


• any YEAA website that links to this Privacy and Cookies Policy;

• social media or official YEAA content on other websites;

• mobile device and TV Applications (“Apps”);


It also relates to our use of any personal information you provide to us by phone, SMS, email, in letters and other correspondence and in person.


In order to provide you with the full range of YEAA services, we sometimes need to collect information about you.


This Privacy and Cookies Policy explains the following:


• what information the YEAA may collect about you;

• how the YEAA will use information we collect about you;

• when the YEAA may use your details to contact you;

• whether the YEAA will disclose your details to anyone else;

• your choices regarding the personal information you provide to us;

• the use of cookies on YEAA websites and how you can reject cookies.


YEAA is committed to safeguarding your personal information. Whenever you provide such information, we are legally obliged to use your information in line with all applicable laws concerning the protection of personal information, including the Data Protection Act 1998 (these laws are referred to collectively in this Privacy and Cookies Policy as the "data protection laws"). No website can be completely secure; if you have any concerns that your YEAA account could have been compromised e.g. someone could have discovered your password, please get in touch straight away.


YEAA website sometimes partner with third parties using hyperlinks to websites owned and operated by these third parties. These third party websites have their own privacy policies, and are also likely to use cookies, and we therefore urge you to review them. They will govern the use of personal information you submit when visiting these websites, which may also be collected by cookies. We do not accept any responsibility or liability for the privacy practices of such third party websites and your use of such websites is at your own risk.


2. Who are we?


Young Entertainment Academy Awards (YEAA) is a Company limited by guarantee in England and Wales, which has been set up to support young people, aged 8-24 who want to explore a career in the Entertainment industry.


3. What information will the YEAA collect about me?


When you participate in, access or sign up to any of the YEAA services, activities or online content, such as vote, competitions, live chats, message boards, web and mobile notifications, telephone or text the YEAA, vote, donate money to a YEAA charity appeal, book tickets for a YEAA event or create an account using the YEAA online registration application we may receive personal information about you. This can consist of information such as your name, email address, postal address, telephone or mobile number, gender or date of birth, as well as information collected about your use of YEAA services (such as what you read or watch on YEAA Online.


If you are the parent or guardian of a child under 13, we may process limited personal data about you so you can give consent for the child to access some YEAA services. We may use your contact details to communicate with you about the child’s account or use of services.


Please note that sometimes we will require you to provide additional personal information, and sometimes sensitive personal information (e.g. if you're sending in an application to nominate we may need to know your profession or marital status. When we do this we will provide further information about why we are collecting your information and how we will use it.

Where we provide personalised services, we may ask your permission to review third party data about you, for example, your Twitter or Facebook feeds, to get to know you better and to provide more effective personalisation. Some of our services enable you to sign-in via a third party service, such as Facebook. If you choose to sign-in via a third party app, you will be presented with a dialog box which will ask your permission to allow the YEAA to access your personal information (e.g. your full name, date of birth, email address and any other information you have made publicly accessible).


4. How will the YEAA use the information it collects about me?


The YEAA will use your personal information for a number of purposes including the following:


• to provide our services, activities or online content, to provide you with information about them and to deal with your requests and enquiries;

• to provide you with the most user-friendly online navigation experience;

• for "service administration purposes", which means that the YEAA may contact you for reasons related to the service, activity or online content you have signed up for, to notify you of updates to our Privacy and Cookies Policy or Terms of Use, to let you know if your YEAA account has become dormant and to ask if you would like to use it again before we close it);

• to contact you about a submission you have made, including any content you provide. For additional information, please see the Terms of Use;



5. When will the YEAA contact me?


The YEAA  may contact you:

in relation to any personalised services you are using;

Nomination applications

in relation to any contribution you have submitted to the  YEAA, e.g. on the YEAA message boards or via text or voicemail message;

to invite you to participate in surveys about the YEAA services (participation is always voluntary);

to update you on any material changes to the YEAA’s policies and practices; and

for marketing purposes.


We will never contact you to ask for your personal details/ password, or other login information. Please be cautious if you receive any emails or calls from people asking for this information and claiming to be from the YEAA.


6. Will I be contacted for marketing purposes?


YEAA will only send you marketing emails or contact you where you have agreed to this.

We offer emails, including update, to let you know about YEAA programmes and services. From time to time we may also contact you to ask your views on issues affecting the ceremony..


We may personalise the message content based upon any information you have provided to us.



7. Will YEAA share my personal information with anyone else?


We will keep your information within YEAA except where disclosure is required or permitted by law (for example to government bodies and law enforcement agencies, including for child protection reasons) or as described in this section and section 9.

We may share your information across the partnering organisations where this is necessary to provide you with a service you have requested, for example, agents in the UK.


8. Offensive or inappropriate content on YEAA websites


If you post or send content which may reasonably be deemed to be offensive, inappropriate or objectionable anywhere on or to YEAA websites or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on any YEAA service, the YEAA may remove such content.

Where the YEAA reasonably believes that you are or may be in breach of any applicable laws, for example on hate speech, the YEAA may disclose your personal information to relevant third parties, including to law enforcement agencies or your internet provider. The YEAA would only do so in circumstances where such disclosure is permitted under applicable laws, including data protection law.


9. What if I am a user aged under 18?


If you are aged 18 or under, please get your parent/guardian's permission before you provide any personal information to the YEAA

If you are under 18 and want to nominate a ‘Young Entertainer’ then you will need to provide your date of birth to make sure you can use the parts of YEAA Online that are meant for you and for younger visitors. If you are under 13 then we will need consent from your parent/guardian before you can use some of our services.


Outside the UK  YEAA  will not provide access to the child specific content available in the UK. Please do not access YEAA if you are outside the UK and under 18 as your account may be removed.


10. How long will the YEAA keep my information?


We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity. Solely for voting purposes.


11. Web browser cookies


a) What is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes a unique identifier that is sent to your computer, tablet or mobile phone (all referred to here as a "device") web browser from a website's computer and is stored on your device's hard drive. Each website can send its own cookie to your web browser if your browser's preferences allow it. Many websites do this whenever a user visits their website in order to track online traffic flows. Similar technologies are also often used within emails to understand whether the email has been read or if any links have been clicked. If you continue without changing your settings, we’ll assume that you are happy to receive all cookies on the YEAA website. However, you can change your settings at any time.

b) How does the YEAA use cookies?

Information supplied by cookies can help us to understand the profile of our visitors and help us to provide you with a better user experience. It also helps us recognise when you are visited YEAA and to provide a more personalised experience. For example, if on a previous visit you went to our What’s on pages, we might find this out from your cookie and highlight what on information on your second and subsequent visits. The YEAA uses this type of information to help improve the services it provides to its users.
